The Complete Mercury Recordings
Doug Sahm and The Sir Douglas Quintet
Hip-O Select
This limited-edition, beautifully remastered five-disc box set represents a treasure trove of songs previously relegated to out-of-print LPs, compilation CDs or deep within the memories of individuals lucky enough to have heard them when they were first issued.
To this day, these albums the second through seventh releases by the astonishing Tex-Mex-plus group remain criminally unavailable individually on compact disc in the country where they were recorded.
The exquisite clothbound CD-book also includes non-album singles, b-sides, previously unreleased tracks, a Mexican EP and half a dozen songs with the band backing up country and rock vocalist Roy Head and bluesman Junior Parker. The last disc contains all the group’s mono singles for the label, affording the listener one hell of a greatest-hits CD as well as the means to fantasize hearing the music on a jukebox in some cantina while enjoying authentic Southwestern cuisine and an obscure cerveza.
Doug, we miss ya, wherever you are. Sorry it took so long to do your music justice.
